Knowing Your Poker Hands

October 16th, 2011 admin No comments

Unlike most other kinds of card games, poker is a game that does not rely solely on luck. While other casino type card games do rely heavily on luck, and even poker has a certain element that does as well, it is a game that is more heavily reliant on skill and knowledge of the game. Knowing how to play the game of poker is the only surefire way to be able to win money and make sure that you’re not wasting your time at the poker table. Knowing how to bet, when to bluff, and the strength of each hand will benefit you greatly when you’re playing a game of poker.

If you are holding in your hand a straight flush or a royal flush, while this may not be advised it would still not be an absurd idea. It is important to remember that not only would you be bluffing, so we’re opponents. Communication is only 10% verbal and 90% body language, so paying attention to how your opponents are reacting to the cards is very important. While they may be betting large, they may also be giving you signals with their body they tell you that their intentions are to bluff and try and force you out of the table. If you’re still having trouble with the game of poker, there are many guides that are available on the Internet, as well as in written form many different publishers that would help greatly with your poker skills and know-how.

What is your poker playing style?

September 16th, 2011 admin No comments

Those who play online poker will undoubtedly have encountered talk of various poker playing styles; there are a few widely accepted ‘types of player’ that you are likely to encounter at the virtual felt.

With a little knowledge, it can become a fairly simple affair to observe the way in which an opponent handles the game, then categorise them into a certain ‘type of player’; taking this approach to the game can greatly improve an online poker player’s performance, enabling them to make the right decision for whichever opponent they find themselves playing against…

The first playing style to be wary of is the ‘tight aggressive’ player; these opponents are among the hardest that you will come across, but fortunately they comprise the minority of small stakes poker games. A tight aggressive player will fold the majority of their hands, playing only strong starting cards and playing them fearlessly, with big raises in order to make people pay to play against them.

Tight passive players are similar to tight aggressive players, with the exception of commitment to a hand; these kinds of players will play few hands but will play them more conservatively then tight aggressive players. This makes this style of play somewhat weaker than a tight aggressive style.

Loose aggressive players make up the majority of small stakes online poker games; these players are unpredictable and cause even the most experienced player a great deal of aggravation. Fortunately, loose aggressive players will usually lose more big hands than they win.

Loose passive players are few and far between due to the lack of headway that this style of playing is capable of making. Loose aggressive players will play most hands and fold most hands. They are viewed as ‘chip vendors’ by any experienced players at the table.

Online Casino Terminology Explained

August 19th, 2011 admin No comments

Welcome to the world of the online casino. Here you will learn the basic terminology of the online casino scheme so that you will be set up to sign up, log in and start playing.

In fact that is where we will start. When you find an online casino that looks attractive to you, you will always find that the casino is offering a number of promotions. Promotions are tempters that are designed to encourage you to play. Online casino promotions come in a number of different formats and a clever casino player will see them as a way to reduce the house edge.

The house edge is how an online casino makes its money and it is effectively the difference between the odds that the casino is offering and the real odds of the game you are playing. This is best shown by an example. The odds of winning a single number bet on European roulette are 1 in 27, and if you win the casino will pay out at 25 to 1. The difference is the house edge.

Casinos bonuses come in various forms. A no deposit online casino will give you money to play with just for signing up. Deposit bemuses give you extra money to play with as a percentage of your initial deposit. For example, if a casino is offering 150% deposit bonus and you make an initial deposit of £100, then you will find there is £250 in your account.

Bonuses generally require you to make a number of ‘play-throughs’ before you can make a cash withdrawal. A play-though means making bets that are equivalent to the sum of your deposit and bonus. 20 play-throughs is a typical requirement. That means that on the above example you would need to place £5,000 of bets before you could withdraw any cash.

Compos are a kind of bonus that you receive from an online casino as a reward for playing and are awarded whether you win or you lose. These are generally awarded as compo points and when you have acquired enough of them you can exchange them for cash.

Three Tips for Increasing Texas Hold ‘em Winnings

January 5th, 2011 admin No comments

Winning poker consistently requires a sound memory, and a proven strategy that can be used to turn the odds in your favor on a nightly basis. Fortunately, anyone can combine the following three tips to increase their winnings and Texas hold ‘em poker.

Tip one – the first thing to remember when playing any form of poker, or any gambling game for that matter, is to never play with your emotions and to think about every move logically. Making higher bets just because you think you’re on a roll is a prime example of claim based on emotions. Approaching the game of poker with this perspective and mindset is a recipe for disaster.

Tip two – Learn the basics, and then the advanced. After you understand the mindset required to become a successful poker player, it’s time to begin absorbing knowledge about poker using tips and tutorials found online. Never use a single strategy, and learn how to recognize opponents who do only utilize one strategy, as this can give you an advantage in tournaments by helping you decipher your opponent’s hands.

The three – Be conservative. The key to controlling how much you’re winning is to control how much you can lose on any given night. Thus, it is best to be conservative and set limits on how much money you plan on betting each night, to prevent going into debt that cannot easily be escaped. Being conservative also means sticking to a betting strategy, regardless of whether you’re winning or losing.

The Mistake of the Minimum Raise Strategy

November 12th, 2010 admin No comments

PoolePoker is a game that requires strategy, hard work, focus and a lot of luck. However, with the right techniques you can minimize your risks of losing, and maximize the possibility of winning. One of the common mistakes in poker is the minimum raise technique, in which a player will continuously make minimum bets in order to raise other players, regardless of their positioning at the table. Using this strategy will make it apparent to other players at the table that you are not experienced, as in many cases making the minimum bet erroneously can result in an unnecessary loss of winnings.

An example of a situation in which one would not want to make the minimum raise would be during a Texas hold ‘em tournament in the late position after 4 players have limped before you. In this situation most of the opponents will likely call the raise, rendering it useless. Thus, raising the pot by the minimal amount when you’re ahead, or when you’re uncertain about the outcome, is not a wise decision or necessary action. Nonetheless, there are situations in which a minimum raise may be necessary, however these instances are few and far between, and it is much more likely that raising by the minimal amount will yield losses rather than rewards, statistically. If you’re in the late stages of the tournament and the blinds are large, it may then be advisable to use the minimum raising strategy to maximize your chances of winning big stack late in the game.
